Proposal

Vitamin L Promotional Video Project Proposal

Field of Interest:

I am interested in working with media. More specifically I want to film and edit a promotional video consisting of interviews, concerts, little kids, graphs, handshakes, and inspirational pictures.
Two years ago in Mr. Asklar’s class I made a video for a project and I had a lot of fun. My cousin, Anthony, makes youtube videos and he and his friends have their own channel. We have made videos together before and I really enjoyed it.
Last summer I was featured in the first Vitamin L music video “Step Up, Speak Out!”. I got to meet Jeff Hodges, the filmmaker, in the process. Interestingly, Jeff is a former student of Mr. Asklar’s, and like me, he did the video project. This connection inspired me to want to do film more seriously.

Goals:

I have many external goals and personal goal related to this project. Externally I want to help Vitamin L. Jan and Janice Nigro have helped me so much over the past 7 years and I want to give back. I hope this video is able to provide Vitamin L with more concerts and helps Vitamin L grow. The more kids Vitamin L impacts the better.
I want to create a two to three minute documentary style promotional video that can be sent to local schools in the form of a press kit. A press kit is a promotional package that includes pamphlets, letters, pictures, and sometimes videos. To save money on printing I want to create an electronic press kit, or e-press kit.
On a personal level I have many other goals.  I want to get better at speaking at board meetings.  A lot of times I sink into the background at board meeting for Vitamin L but now I am going to have to stand up and lead discussions about what the video should be.  I will have to be organized and prepared for all meetings. I also hope to improve my time management in this project.  I am going to plan out each week based on how long each thing will take. I will have a separate Google calendar named “Vitamin L Promotional Video” and I am going to share it with Janice Nigro, and whoever my mentors end up being. I will put events on my phone calendar during the day and transfer them at night. At the beginning of each week I will post my plans and goals for the week ahead.  At the end of each week I will post a reflection on my accomplishments, and failures of the past week and think about how to improve.
I also hope to improve my social skills with adults. I am an outgoing guy, but when I talk to adult strangers I sometimes stutter and talk in a weird way. I will be running meetings between my mentor and Janice Nigro. Running the meeting will force me to be prepared and help me face my fear. Also, through the interviews I will be able to practice talking to strangers which will come in handy in the future. I have looked up interview strategies and I will study these strategies in order to have successful interviews.

Specific Plans:

This project is split into four parts (though they will likely overlap); Planning, Filming, Editing, and Distributing. I don’t know how long each part will take but here is a list of things I have to do in each. (I will meet with the Vitamin L board every first Tuesday of the month)
